Our Purpose
The Expert Advisory Group (EAG) on Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), consisting of pre-eminent national and international experts and those with lived experience/expertise of mental illness, aims to ensure evolving MAiD policies are guided by best evidence and practice.
At a time when Canada is at a juncture deciding how to proceed with evolving MAiD policies, there are naturally a diverse range of opinions on the path forward. Diversity of thought is essential for robust societal debate, and all opinions should be heard and considered. When setting policies with profound social, ethical, and public health implications, the EAG believes Canadians deserve to have policies guided by the best evidence available.
To this end, the EAG’s goal is to provide expert, evidence-based advice to inform the public and help guide legislators and stakeholders as MAiD policies continue to evolve.
